C’è grande attesa intorno a Il grande Gatsby di Baz Luhrmann. I motivi sono diversi: sarà il film d’apertura della 66esima edizione del Festival di Cannes, che dal prossimo 15 maggio Bestmovie.it seguirà quotidianamente; vanta un cast all-star, composto da Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Isla Fisher e Joel Edgerton; ha un regista che in quanto a stile visivo non ha nulla da invidiare a nessuno (ricordate Australia, Moulin Rouge o Romeo + Juliet?); e, in ultimo, è il quarto adattamento del grande classico di Francis Scott Fitzgerald. Dopo il nuovo poster, è stato diffuso online anche un nuovo full trailer, che sottolinea ancora di più la grandezza della pellicola, costata 127 milioni di dollari. Il “discreto” budget non basta, però, a descrivere un film che si preannuncia una gioia per gli occhi: a differenza di quello interpretato da Robert Redford nel 1974 (ultimo adattamento del romanzo prima della pellicola di Luhrmann), questo Gatsby sembra un personaggio molto più tormentato, con più sfaccettature. L’esibizionismo delle sue feste e della sua ricchezza, è ben sottolineato da una colonna sonora da urlo, prodotta da Jay-Z, di cui fanno parte artisti del calibro di Beyoncé (che in coppia con Andre 3000 firma una cover di Back to Black di Amy Winehouse), Lana Del Rey e Florence + The Machine.

La storia ruota intorno a Nick Carraway (Maguire), un giovane del Midwest che si trasferisce a Long Island, New York, dove conosce il misterioso e carismatico vicino Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) e viene trascinato nel suo mondo fatto di vita mondana ma anche ossessione e tragedia, che finisce per coinvolgere anche la cugina di Nick, Daisy Buchanan (Mulligan) con cui Gatsby ha una sofferta storia.
