Prima dell’era digitale, il cinema era innanzitutto un forma d’arte artigianale. Parliamo dei tempi dello Studio System, dei grandi film horror della Universal, e di geni del make-up come Jack Pierce, che trasformavano gli attori in figure sino ad allora ingabbiate nell’immaginario letterario come la mummia, il mostro di Frankenstein, o l’uomo lupo. Poi arrivò il computer, che rivoluzionò il modo di fare cinema, senza privarlo, però, della sua anima da fabbrica dei sogni.
Il make-up è e rimarrà sempre un processo fondamentale nella realizzazione di un film, con i maghi del trucco pronti a dare vita ai personaggi più disparati e le star, dal canto loro, preparate ad armarsi di pazienza per affrontare sedute interminabili davanti allo specchio.
