Felix Bonhoeffer è uno sceneggiatore di mezza età che, senza mai rendersene conto, ha sempre vissuto la propria esistenza contemporaneamente nel mondo reale e negli universi immaginari delle sue storie. Quando viene scritturato per riscrivere la sceneggiatura di un film ambientato in una tavola calda, la mente di Felix, satura, viene invasa dai nuovi personaggi che sta creando.
