Il regista premio Oscar Ron Howard porta sul grande schermo la grande rivalità tra i piloti di Formula 1 Niki Lauda e James Hunt. Il film racconta del rapporto dentro e fuori dalla pista tra i due piloti, passando per il terribile incidente che coinvolse Lauda nel 1976 durante il Gran Premio del Nürburgring, in Germania, quando la sua auto prese fuoco dopo essere sbandata.
