Tim Lake (Domhnall Gleeson) è un ragazzo che ha ereditato dal padre (Bill Nighy) il potere di viaggiare nel tempo. Quando si innamora della bella e insicura Mary (Rachel McAdams), scopre che quello che sembra essere un dono è in realtà anche una maledizione che rischia di allontanarlo dalla sua amata. Almeno fino a quando non riesce a capire come utilizzare i viaggi temporali per trasformare il suo corteggiamento, in un corteggiamento perfetto.
