Basato su fatti realmente accaduti, Dallas Buyers Club ruota attorno alle vicende di un texano di nome Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey) che scopre di aver contratto l’ADIS e di avere ancora un mese di vita. Essendo alcuni farmaci proibiti negli Stati Uniti, Ron decide di procurarsi cure mediche alternative da tutto il mondo con mezzi legali e non. Nel frattempo, seguendo un corso di medicina alternativa, incontra Rayon (Jared Leto), un transessuale sieropositivo. Sarà grazie al suo aiuto e a quello della dottoressa Eve Sacksupplies (Jennifer Garner) che Ron riuscirà a lottare contro la sua condizione e a fornire anche ad altre persone con le medicine illegali negli Stati Uniti per la cura all’AIDS.
